Prairieville United Methodist Church is located 9.5 Miles east of I 35 on Highway 60 east of Faribault, MN and 6 miles west of Kenyon, MN on Highway 60.

Our Mission Statement
The Mission of the Prairieville UMC is to serve the Gospel of Jesus Christ by providing opportunities to the community to experience a relationship with God and each other that encompasses respect, understanding and compassion. We will accomplish this by working as a team of loving Servants to meet peoples basic human needs with our hearts, our hands and all of our resources human or capital.

About us

A sturdy stone foundation, white clapboard walls and frosted window panes from the building we know as the Prairieville United Methodist Church. But for 135 years, the church has been more than just a building. It is the founding pioneers, their ancestors who helped it grow, friends in faith whose spirit is still being demonstrated in word and deed community wide.

In 1856, Rev A Tarnutzer arrived from Wisconsin and later organized the First Evangelical Class in Minnesota, ministering to a number of families in the East Prairie area.

By early fall of 1870, the Prairieville congregation was born. Settlers established a log structure 6 miles from the East Prairie Church under the labors of Rev. A Knebel, volunteer labor and a pledge of $685.00. Field Secretary of Missions, Rev. William Yost appeared as a guest speaker at the dedication on November 13, 1870.

The present building erected in 1902 and in 1935 the basement completed as a project for the church’s 65th anniversary.

In 1995, members agreed the small country church could grow and better serve the community by building on to and complimenting the original structure a community room providing indoor plumbing, a kitchen and handicap accessibility. Donations arrived from around the country on September 15, 1996, after hours of preparing, the members held their first coffee hour in the new addition.

The little church in the country has a rich heritage, founded by determined settlers and carried on by their equally determined ancestors.
